The Learning for Liberation® Freedom School

Birthed in 1993 when children met in their homes and learned lessons about African geography and African American history. The tradition of learning about the rich culture and contributions of African people around the world serves as the foundation of the Freedom School. The Freedom School operates from May 1st to September 1st of each school year.

boost student agency and identity as learners
build critical thinking skills
develop an understanding of historical and current events from the perspective of African Americans
promote a clear and positive self image for students and participants
